Warning: Spoilers!!!!!
I have recently seen the brand new Five nights at Freddy’s movie that we all have been waiting for…But it is not what you expected.
I know you guys have seen mixed reviews on FNAF movies. Some people hate it, some love it! Which ones to believe? Who knows, but here is my review of the movie.
The movie starts off by following our main character, Mike Schmidt. He is seen to be going through a lot. Taking sleeping pills, punching people to death and fighting custody of his little sister while also trying to find a way to support his lifestyle.
Is this the same mike from the games? Yes and no. They have the same name yes but definitely not the same storyline at least for now. The background of this character is that he had a younger brother but was kidnapped when they were on a family picnic. The mother has died and the dad could not handle the family getting smaller and disappeared. So the family that Mike now has is his aunt and his little sister. The aunt wants to take custody of the younger sister but it seems she only wants the check from the government. The little sister is withdrawn from her classmates and stays to herself. The only friends she has are her weird drawings and imaginary friends.
Back to Mike. He suffers from trying to figure out who kidnapped his little brother and he thinks he knows who took him. He searches his dreams from answers, that is where the sleeping pills come to play. He has the same dream of the day that his brother was taken and he searches for answers.
When his aunt threatens to take his sister away, he realizes he must find a job. He goes to a career counselor and was offered a security job at Freddy’s. The job is simple and follows the rules of the game.
During the first night, Mike follows his sleeping routine and goes into his memories searching for answers once more. This time he joined with 5 younger kids. Not knowing who these kids are, he still asks for answers and they all split up and he chases them for answers but none are given to him. He awoke to find a police officer at the door who claims this is just on her daily route. Vanessa is familiar with the place and says she loved this place when she was younger.
In a different scene we find out that Mal, The babysitter of Mike’s younger sister, Abby, is working for Mike’s aunt as a mole trying to find out info on how Mike isn’t fit to be a caretaker. Mal and her brother and the aunt all come up with a plan that could cost Mike his job. They trash the place. Though their plan did not work as they met an awful end in the place of Freddy’s.
Vanessa shows up at Mike’s place saying there was a break in and that he is responsible and that it should not happen again. The babysitter did not show up and Mike started to panic. He has no other choice but to bring Abby to work with him.
The next couple of scenes are where people have their complaints. The scenes show Mike and Abby finding out about the possessed animatronics and how they are the missing children. Which Vanessa told him about on their first night of meeting but she knew about them the whole time! A heads up would have been nice. I think people forget that yes these spirits are angry but they are still kids, they want to have fun. They befriended Abby and they all decided to build a fort, weird and not to be expected.
The movie suddenly takes a turn when the kids pull at Mike’s heart strings and they offer him everything he wants in exchange for his sister. He soon realized he must focus on the present and regretted his decisions. The kids roughed him up and he was patched up by Vanessa and she explained how to help his sister and that the kids are not thinking straight and how the yellow rabbit who murdered them has his control on them. She also mentions that the yellow rabbit is her father, William Afton. He is also the person who gave Mike the job! She can not help him because of this reason.
The kids kill the aunt and then take the baby as they want to make her like them. They lure her into the back room and try to stuff her in a suit. Mike goes on and goes on a battle with William Afton himself. Vanessa finally worked up the courage and helped out but was hurt in the fight and is now in a coma of some sort. Abby helps the kids remember how they died and they turn on their murderer who eventually suffered the fate of the springlock suit.
This is a quick overview and definitely not all the details. In my opinion though the storyline is a bit different to the games and the book I feel like if we just accepted this storyline and was open to it, everyone would love it. It’s not all scary and gory as the lore leads it out to be but I feel like some scenes add to the fact that they are still kids who had their childhood taken away from them. It was definitely cool to see the game come to life and I can not wait to see what the next one has in store.
Also shout out to CoryXKenshin who played a role in the movie.
